Your Questions About Bath Fixtures

Paul asks…
How high do I need to vent a basement half bath in the basement of a house with 2 living stories above?
I’m adding a half bath in my basement and have decided to go with a Saniflo system. The system will be about 6 feet from the main line leading to the septic system and the pump/half bath is directly below a bathroom on the first floor of the house. Can I connect the vent from the Saniflo system to the existing vents for the above bathroom that run to the main vent? If I can or can not, how high up does the Saniflo vent need to be in relation to other plumbing fixtures?

admin answers:
The vent on the saniflo systems can be tied into an existing vent line. This needs to be a 2 way vent not an air admittance valve. The vent should be at least 4 ft above the pump. I sell saniflo systems everyday.

How long should a complete one story home renovation take?
I’m renovation the second floor of my home 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, new dry wall, flooring, windows, bathroom fixtures(shower, sink, and toilet) and electrical and paint, Contractors said it would take two and a half months, its going on four months and theyre no even half way done?

It sounds as though you have one of those great contractors who work on multiple jobs at the same time, instead of one at a time. My brother and I do contracting and remodeled a 2000 sq ft home and did the landscaping in less than 4 months. Even when you have a bid, it seems very unprofessional of them to take this long, unless they have run into every problem imaginable. Next time try to build into the contract a discount for the project running over a certain amount of time. I have done this for my customers and have never had to pay out for it.

Ariel Plumbing Fixtures for Home Remodel?
I am doing a remodel that includes a half bath that gets used quite a bit. I need to purchase a new toilet and I am looking at a couple by a brand named Ariel (the platinum toilet and the Hermes). Problem is, I am having a hard time finding some spec information about them and also any info that might tell me if they’re a quality fixture. I do know that they come from a company in China and that’s where they’re manufactured. I basically want to know if this brand is reliable or if it’s crap. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Go with Kohler it’s the best on the market. I’m a retired contractor. I was never called back to a job with kohler.I was called back when the owner bought cheap plumbing parts and the owner payed me twice to fix the problem. Some times you think your getting a good deal, but all your getting is in your wallet. Go with Kohler it’s the best on the market an last.
