How much to finish upstairs?
we have recently bought a 3 bedroom 2 bath modular cape ( we had it built) on the website they had a proposed plan to finish the extra 900 square feet up stairs in to 2 bedrooms (each with a walkin closet)a large loft and a third bathroom. how much would it cost us to finish the upstairs ( drywall, floors, bathroom vanity and fixtures ETC) we dont want anything fancy. if it helps we live in the coastal maine area
we dont need the exact just a rough range its gonna run us

I would agree, $30,000 is probably the low end. Several years ago I did the space above our garage (300 square feet) including a new stairs and electric heat pump for about $10,000 but I did all the labor except for electrical and insulation.
My best guess is about $45,000 plus.

Ken asks…
my home interior lights come BACK on after I turn them off?
Just 3 light bulbs (the new energy efficient, fluorescent bulb)out of the whole house, after I turn the lights out in the living room, 1 bulb in a fixture that holds 4 will blink on. The same for the Kitchen and the Bath room. Why?

admin answers:
My guess would be some small voltage leakage on some circuits. If you had regular bulbs (incandescent) you probably would not see anything, unless you installed 4 7 watt lamps. With the small wattage, they would probably glow. Because you have 4 fluorescent lamps installed, one is loading, or sucking more power than the others. Low voltage lamps do this once in a while if they are on a dimmer set on low.
I would start by checking your neutral wire coming into the house. A qualified electrician would probably want to do this. Check the neutral at the panel, in the meter base and have the power company check the pole or transformer neutral.
Once all is ok on that end, check the individual circuits in question for grounding problems. It needs to be fixed so no one gets hurt!

Charles asks…
condo sales?
I am thinking of purchasing a condo in a downtown area.my options are:
1. 5th floor 845sq ft east facing corner unit. windows in every room. 1 view overlooks vacant parking lot, the other overlooks the entrance of a historic hotel to be renovated to condos. Its noisy since it faces the street, but I’m told by R.E agents that the resale value will be better since it has views.
2. a 945 sqft interior unit with views of other interior units & lightwell, no neighbors, except unit across lightwell. This unit is also on the 5th floor (there are 12 total) so i’m not sure how dim it will be in that unit.I believe there is some natural light that comes in at some point in the day as the sun passes. This unit is priced $20,000 less.
Both units have birch wood floors, granite countertops, Toto kitchen & bath fixtures, bosch appliances, italian cabinetry. The building is awesome, not sure which to choose. The agent tells me that interior units are difficult to sell.which unit would u prefer?

admin answers:
I second the appraiser, especially if you are ANYWHERE near UCLA….RE is a major investment there and you are merely investing. The corner unit with fewer neighbors and actual daylight will hold way higher value and appreciate quicker!
GOOD LUCK!
